Charles McVicker grew up in the suburbs of Pittsburgh PA. He majored in Fine
Art at The Principia College. After two years in the US Army, he did further
study at Art Center College of Design in Los Angeles. There he studied with noted
painter Lorser Feitelson. He married Lucy Graves, now also an accomplished painter.
He then worked as a freelance illustrator in New York City for many years till
his three daughters were through college. Since then, while teaching at the College
of New Jersey, he has concentrated on his own painting. He is a member of many
art societies, including the American and National Watercolor Societies. He is
in the Watercolor USA Honor Society. He has been asked to jury numerous art competions.
His work is in the collections of the US Capital, Princeton University, the Rutgers’
Zimmerli Art Museum, Johnson & Johnson, Bell Atlantic, and many private and
corporate collections.
Artist Statement
Lately, although I still do paintings of landscapes and other scenes that move
me, I find myself doing what might be conceived as conceptual works (see Vortex).
Most of my work is a visual autobiography.
