Carol Hanson studied at Brown University, Providence, Rhode Island for her undergraduate Bachelor of Arts degree. She studied drawing and painting at The Art Students’ League in N.Y.C., at the Art Center of Northern N.J. and with several private teachers and master critique classes. She also studied print-making at the Princeton-Trenton Artworks.
She has exhibited in numerous solo, group, and juried shows, winning several top prizes. Her work is in many private collections and in several corporate collections, including the Johnson and Johnson collection.
Hanson’s paintings and monotypes evolve from drawings done in nature and progress to compositions which have more to do with the interactions of color, space, and line than with any attempt at a camera reality. She prefers to simplify forms so that they become symbols or abstractions. The paintings and monotypes suggest rather than inform, and lend themselves to different interpretations.
